New Methane Emissions Rules Process Underway

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission unanimously voted last Thursday to formally launch a new rulemaking process focused on emissions from oil and gas drilling operations. The proposed rules (Regulations #3 and #7), if adopted, would include stricter limits on pollution from oil and gas storage tanks, pipelines, and drilling as well as stronger monitoring requirements. Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases, and absent the right equipment and operating procedures oil and gas drilling is a major source.
