In November 2016, CC4CA submitted comments to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, urging that state funds from the court settlement of Volkswagen and Audi cheating on vehicle emission standards be used for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations and for the replacement of older fossil‐fueled school, shuttle, and transit buses with electric buses. In particular, CC4CA recommended that the funds to be made available to the state be used for two of the ten eligible uses specified in the national settlement:
- fifteen percent of the funds, the specified maximum, should be made available to fund the installation of light duty zero emission vehicle (ZEV) charging stations statewide; and
- a substantial portion of the other 85 percent of the funds should be devoted to replacement of older fossil‐fueled school, shuttle, and transit buses with electric buses.
